How does a wheelie get around with only one arm?

Tomorrow at 9 am I am being admitted to hospital to have a “totally torn in half rotator cuff repaired and they also suspect crushed nerves in the bicep of my left arm.

So what you say people have rotator cuff all the time? Yes that’s right they walk upright and they even return to work in a couple of weeks.

But what if you can’t walk? I rolled into my doctor’s room last Thursday afternoon thinking I would get a surgery date for a month or more with plenty of time to organize things?

No, the doctor said “6 days from now, next Thursday the 4th” Oh by the way take out Saturday and Sunday that left me 3 working days to organize and in that time he wanted a full medical, a EKG, blood taken a chest x-ray a MRI and oh yeah I will have a cryo-sleeve on my arm for 6-8 weeks

and will not be allowed to move it at all so I need an electric wheelchair? Sure I have that kind of money NOT

I live in New York anyone of the above appointments takes up to three months to get and I not only had three days to get in they also wanted the test results to my surgeon in that time????

Oh and a small minor point in the life of a middle aged person who has a life I can’t move off my bed for 6-8 weeks and can’t work for four months?

Oh and the electric wheelchair that costs on average $700 a month to rent or $5-10,000 to buy brand new turned out to be an impossibility in three days.

That’s just the organization, let’s look at the fact that without the money to buy an electric wheelchair my life stops till July and that’s if everything goes well!

So next time some upright abelists loudmouth chimes off “I had that surgery and I went right back to work”! MAZEL wanker, but my arms are virtually my legs and that’s a long time to hop on only one.

So yesterday I had an appointment to go have all the pre -med and Columbia doctors on 51st  and decided to have  my yearly breast exam before as the radiology center was close by and when the sonogram was finished the tech mumbled an excuse that she would be back in a moment she came back with a doctor a chef radiologist and told me there was a “lump” and it was not a cyst and there was serious need for further examination so a biopsy was ordered, all I heard was “lump and serious and biopsy” the rest of the day was a blur between tears.

So in the middle of being bed bound after surgery I do have to leave have the biopsy and then wait to find out more.

So to my readers I apologize in advance if my posts get emotional and in the first week on heavy painkillers maybe weird but as a service to other dis and otherwise abled people facing serious debilitating or life altering surgery I will be documenting my recovery, my therapy my success (hopefully) and even the bad news if there is any. Wish me luck or light a candle or do what you want but please no replies asking me if I’m saved or telling me “god has a plan”  so see you soon but not tomorrow but I’m asking Ella to take pics for me to put up.

I rely on the decency and common sense of local, state and federal goverments, as well as the retail community to abide by the disabled access laws and provide adequate ramps, disabled toilets, and not use them as store rooms or broom closets. This blog exists to find the offenders and out them, inform them, and report them if necessary and shame them into doing the right thing when all else fails.
