Newyork Had a blizzard like the emperor had new clothes!

Ok the blizzard must have stopped at Atlantic city to put everything on black, but we in the burbs especially queens got 11 inches. Now I am not a size queen but when you’re in a wheelchair 11 inches of snow and ice on the clearest of sidewalks means the wheelchair goes nowhere. One thing I have discovered in my 9 years with wheels under my ass is the last people on earth both government and private folk think of when clearing snow is how do the disabled get around?

It doesn’t help when mayor diblasio stands up at the podium and says “remember when shoveling out your car, keep the roads clear and dump it on the sidewalk?” do you mean so They look like this?
snow 6 blocked crossing
And this is what we face

snow5
and crosswalks become inpossible without sled dogs tied to your chair

snow 6 blocked crossing
Yes folks that was a cross walk but you couldnt tell because they listened to the mayor!

There are 60,000 wheelchair users in Manhattan alone, and that still leaves four other boroughs. So thats 60,000 who because of the mayors words don’t leave the house, no correction can’t leave the house.
So folks please do dump it on the road thats what the thousands of ploughs are for, because if you dump it on the sidewalk the disabled, the elderly, the blind ,the pregnant become pinballs in a dangerous game and it’s not funny.

I am a disabled woman who through no fault of my own has wheels under my ass. I rely on the decency and common sense of local, state and federal goverments, as well as the retail community to abide by the disabled access laws and provide adequate ramps, disabled toilets, and not use them as store rooms or broom closets. This blog exists to find the offenders and out them, inform them, and report them if necessary and shame them into doing the right thing when all else fails.
