James Robert Lambert, 57, of Hudson was released from the Pasco County Jail after positng $10,000 bond
Lori Lamb said she wasn’t a fan of the bus assistant on her son’s school bus.
Her son, Jeffery, 10, is autistic.
“He was cussing at my son the second time, ” Lori Lamb said.
“I witnessed this man going in my son’s pants pocket when I was standing there and yanked out whatever he had in his pocket. I was like, ‘Hey. you don’t need to do that, I’m standing right here. I can do that, don’t touch my son.'”
Pasco County sheriff’s investigators said surveillance video recorded on a school bus camera show school bus assistant James Lambert, 57, of Hudson. putting his hands on Jeffery.
“The suspect was riding a school bus in the performance of his duties when a 10-year-old special needs student with autism began to yell profanities,” according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. “Lambert yelled to the student then walked to the back of the bus and intentionally smacked the 10-year-old victim across the left side of his face with an open hand.”
Lamb said she spotted marks on her son’s body.
“He had some marks on his arm, like red marks on the back of his neck,” Lamb said. “I was angry, devastated, disappointed and appalled. My son represents all the children with disability.”
Lamb said Jeffery did not tell her what occurred. One of Jeffrey’s friends reported the incident.
Lamb contacted Pasco County school district officials, who reviewed the tapes. Then she received a call from a Pasco County child protective investigator.
Lamb now has many questions.
“How long has it been going on?” she said. “How many times did it happen? Are there other children that he has done this to.”
Lambert has had no previous discipline problems as a school district employee, Pasco County schools spokeswoman Linda Cobbe said.
“He hasn’t been fired,” Cobbe said. “He was going to work summer school, but he has been pulled from that. Decisions about his future employment status have not been made at this time.”
A News Channel 8 reporter knocked on Lambert’s door Saturday, but no one answered.
Lamb expressed outrage at Lambert.
“I just find him to be a very ignorant and a person that doesn’t belong on a bus or being around children period,” Lamb said.
