11-year-old special needs student upset by ‘mean-spirited’ awards nominations

LAKE JACKSON, Texas — The mother of an 11-year-old special needs student is demanding an apology over what she calls a mean-spirited awards ceremony.
Denis Harr is on the autism spectrum and receives special instruction at Rasco Middle School.
His mom says he is especially vulnerable to what happened at school.
Her son says he has been receiving some not so nice labels after a list of nominations created by the teachers in his 5th grade class.
“They said they had chosen me for most gullible and drama king,” said Denis Harr. “I didn’t know what they meant. I thought they meant something bad that would make fun of you or something like that.”
Harr told his mother Carmel and she said she would’ve put a stop to it much sooner if parents had been told about the nominations.
The school told KHOU 11 News that the award categories were planned by a small group of teachers, but after the complaints the superintendent did away with the awards.
Carmel believes students and parents deserve a heartfelt apology

I am a disabled woman who through no fault of my own has wheels under my ass. I rely on the decency and common sense of local, state and federal goverments, as well as the retail community to abide by the disabled access laws and provide adequate ramps, disabled toilets, and not use them as store rooms or broom closets. This blog exists to find the offenders and out them, inform them, and report them if necessary and shame them into doing the right thing when all else fails.
