A famous man once said those who ignore history are destined to repeat it

The 20th century world wide was one that the population and especially the governments one would have thought not only could never forget but they would learn from. But it seems that is a unfounded and incorrect assumption. Not just the 20th but also the end of the 19th the last 150 years depending what encyclopedia you read was one of great innovation and struggle for world peace unfortunately as is evident with the current incarnation of the American republicans and their tamed pit bulls the tea party that is an assumption we should never had made.
In the 20th century we discovered the outer galaxies we cured illnesses rid the planet of horrible plagues we conquered dictators captured war criminals we had a concert for Bangladesh we ended apartheid we brought down the Berlin wall we discovered a world plague called aids and we educated a planet that it could be managed and yet in this the fourteenth year of the 21st modern century. We are going to war in countries we have no right being in fighting for a peninsula we already had a war over and once again half of the largest nation on earth has gone back to arguing evolution and screaming women shouldn’t be equal and gays should burn in hell and if you’re different we have the right to treat you as an enemy?
This week the Ukraine a country close to my own heart is on the verge a full blown war with Russia over the Crimean peninsula the strange thing is back in the 1800’s they already had that war it was the one that made a little lady called Florence Nightingale famous yes again it seems someone has ignored history so again we shed blood a people who have the same blood flowing through their veins , a people who stood shoulder to shoulder and fought the Nazis now face off and in modern cities such as Kiev and Odessa there are gun fights in the streets bombs exploding cars burning and families turning on each other? When will we ever learn perhaps you need to read the history so I thought I would do you a favor.

Crimean War, (October 1853–February 1856), war fought mainly on the Crimean Peninsula between the Russians and the British, French, and Ottoman Turkish, with support from January 1855 by the army of Sardinia-Piedmont. The war arose from the conflict of great powers in the Middle East and was more directly caused by Russian demands to exercise protection over the Orthodox subjects of the Ottoman sultan. Another major factor was the dispute between Russia and France over the privileges of the Russian Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches in the holy places in Palestine.
Supported by Britain, the Turks took a firm stand against the Russians, who occupied the Danubian principalities (modern Romania) on the Russo-Turkish border in July 1853. The British fleet was ordered to Constantinople (Istanbul) on September 23. On October 4 the Turks declared war on Russia and in the same month opened an offensive against the Russians in the Danubian principalities. After the Russian Black Sea fleet destroyed a Turkish squadron at Sinope, on the Turkish side of the Black Sea, the British and French fleets entered the Black Sea on January 3, 1854, to protect Turkish transports. On March 28 Britain and France declared war on Russia. To satisfy Austria and avoid having that country also enter the war, Russia evacuated the Danubian principalities. Austria occupied them in August 1854. In September 1854 the allies landed troops in Russian Crimea, on the north shore of the Black Sea, and began a yearlong siege of the Russian fortress of Sevastopol. Major engagements were fought at the Alma River on September 20, at Balaklava on October 25 (commemorated in “The Charge of the Light Brigade” by English poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson), and at Inkerman on November 5. On January 26, 1855, Sardinia-Piedmont entered the war and sent 10,000 troops. Finally, on September 11, 1855, three days after a successful French assault on the Malakhov, a major strongpoint in the Russian defenses, the Russians blew up the forts, sank the ships, and evacuated Sevastopol. Secondary operations of the war were conducted in the Caucasus and in the Baltic Sea.
After Austria threatened to join the allies, Russia accepted preliminary peace terms on February 1, 1856. The Congress of Paris worked out the final settlement from February 25 to March 30. The resulting Treaty of Paris, signed on March 30, 1856, guaranteed the integrity of Ottoman Turkey and obliged Russia to surrender southern Bessarabia, at the mouth of the Danube. The Black Sea was neutralized, and the Danube River was opened to the shipping of all nations. The Crimean War was managed and commanded very poorly on both sides. Disease accounted for a disproportionate number of the approximately 250,000 men lost by each side, although improvements made to the field hospital at Üsküdar by British nurse Florence Nightingale revolutionized the treatment of wounded soldiers and paved the way for later developments in battlefield medicine.
The war did not settle the relations of the powers in eastern Europe. It did awaken the new Russian emperor Alexander II (who succeeded Nicholas I in March 1855) to the need to overcome Russia’s backwardness in order to compete successfully with the other European powers. A further result of the war was that Austria, having sided with Great Britain and France, lost the support of Russia in central European affairs. Austria became dependent on Britain and France, which failed to support that country, leading to the Austrian defeats in 1859 and 1866 that, in turn, led to the unification of Italy and of Germany.

Now before you think I am singling out the Ukranian people, this girl who loves a Ukranian was born an Aussie and will always call Australia home and this weekend less than 6 moths after electing Mr Abbott to the office of Prime Minister hundreds of thousands of Australians took to the streets to let him know that enough is enough.

He has with a few strokes of a an official pen undone more than a hundred years of struggle by Australians to bring democracy and equality to my wide brown land. A country that had Kerr’s cur* a country that fought side by side with her Majesties forces in every conflict since the Boer war. At the same time they had the proud history of the miners revolt at eureka stockade* ,the peace marches of the sixties and the decades long fight for the rights of Aboriginals to be recognized with the installation of the Mabo act for land rights*, and the recognition that the stolen generation* happened and was an abomination on a people.
With this proud history does Mr Abbott think we wont storm the Bastille of his ego driven racist administration, and tell him to paraphrase that great Australian gough whitlam during kerrs cur*

In just six months the prime minister has abolished nearly very act and law beneficial to the well being of every gender, ethnicity and disability in the great nation of Australia, and then put his teeth to pandering to his billionaire buddies by allowing the desecration of the Franklin river in Tasmania the great barrier reef and even attempting to de register national parks to allow logging. When he is finished if he is not stopped, the only tourists that will want to visit Australia are anthropologist and archaeologists to dig for proof that once upon a time a beautiful fair democratic wonder land ever existed.

The mighty United States is not immune to the world stupidity, almost half the population thinks Noah’s ark was real, and the world is only 6,000 years old even though redwood trees on the west coast have been discovered twice as old. Recent articles show that southern states have banned abortion even in the case of incest and rape and granted parental rights and visitation to rapists if their victims become pregnant stating the people can’t afford to pay for the lifestyle of loose women, but last week they gave seventy five million to build a creationist museum to prove evolution wrong, They simultaneously have passed bills in almost every bible belt state, teaching as a fact that god made the world in seven days and evolution is merely an opinion held by heathens?
The United states is the only western country not to officially accept that global warming is a fact, the states have made the need to have photo Id to vote a law to quote “protect our rights” but when the need to have photo Id to purchase a gun in a nation with the highest gun crime and gun deaths in the western word a requirement the country yelled in unison “hell no you’re trampling on our rights”?

I started this post by declaring the old maxim “that a people or country or do not learn from history are destined to repeat it” well United States, world history has shown us nothing if not that when any population is allowed the unfettered right to arm itself unchallenged and uncontrolled that nation in a very few generations has fallen apart into permanent militia powered civil war.

I am not against any citizens right to own a weaponlegally and sensibly, but if have to register my dog or my car or my boat or my Harley what is wrong with registering a gun ? When I became epileptic my right to drive was taken away because I became a danger to the other citizens because of the chance of a seizure while driving, so why shouldn’t a person lose their right to own weapons if they become mentally ill or a danger to the society or demonstrate a level of poor judgment and unfettered violence? No intelligent person sees that as an impingement to rights quite the opposite in fact.

People say to me “Mia this blog is about dis and otherwise abled people what’s with the politics?”
My reply is simple and has always been the same

When a portion of humanity fleeing despots who simply cry help, who simply seek fairness and the ability to live without fear of government approved genocide arrive in countries where they are interred indefinetly and treated like animals, you have done nothing less than scar those people so seriously that it is ridiculous to not expect disability mental physical and emotional to occur. Yet this is what is currently the status Qou in my beloved Australia under the jackbooted Reich that he calls government.

Wake up world, if this keeps Up next month we’ll bere- fighting the Alamo, landing on Omaha beach again and bombing Hiroshima while Putin quietly rebuilds the wall and hangs an iron curtain in the family room of the house of humanity. Please pick up a history book before you pick up a gun and the world just might stand a chance.

I am a disabled woman who through no fault of my own has wheels under my ass. I rely on the decency and common sense of local, state and federal goverments, as well as the retail community to abide by the disabled access laws and provide adequate ramps, disabled toilets, and not use them as store rooms or broom closets. This blog exists to find the offenders and out them, inform them, and report them if necessary and shame them into doing the right thing when all else fails.
