Toledo Police have taken to Facebook to ask for the public’s help in finding a man who tried to steal a service dog off a TARTA bus on Monday.

In security video taken from the front of the public transportation bus, a black male is seen standing behind a service dog laying in the aisle. The dog belongs to a handicapped woman who was seated just to the left of the dog and holding a leash attached to its collar.

As the bus came to a stop, the suspect walked over the dog and attempted to discretely grab the leash from the woman’s hand. She pulled the leash back from the suspect’s hands before he got off the bus at Bancroft and Upton.

The dog was unharmed in the “vicious attempt.” The woman sustained an injury to her hand, according to police.

Police are asking anyone who can identify the suspect seen in the video to call Crimestopper at 419-255-1111, or send them a private message on their Facebook page.

I am a disabled woman who through no fault of my own has wheels under my ass. I rely on the decency and common sense of local, state and federal goverments, as well as the retail community to abide by the disabled access laws and provide adequate ramps, disabled toilets, and not use them as store rooms or broom closets. This blog exists to find the offenders and out them, inform them, and report them if necessary and shame them into doing the right thing when all else fails.
