and again a service dog and handler asked to leave because of the dog??

Blind man asked to leave Nursing home dining room with guide dog

ELKHART A blind man in Elkhart is speaking out after a nursing home asked him to leave the dining room because of his guide dog.

The Elkhart Truth reports that Steve Girten was visiting a friend for lunch at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A staff member asked them to move to another room because of another resident’s dog allergies.

The Americans with Disabilities Act requires businesses to allow guide dogs into all areas of their facilities.

The staff eventually apologized and says Girten will be welcomed to the dining room for any future visits.

Girten says he wasn’t angry. He just wants to raise awareness about rights for those with disabilities.

I am a disabled woman who through no fault of my own has wheels under my ass. I rely on the decency and common sense of local, state and federal goverments, as well as the retail community to abide by the disabled access laws and provide adequate ramps, disabled toilets, and not use them as store rooms or broom closets. This blog exists to find the offenders and out them, inform them, and report them if necessary and shame them into doing the right thing when all else fails.
