An Ohio man is headed to jail after he was caught on video appearing to mock his 10-year-old neighbor who has cerebral palsy.
A municipal court judge sentenced William M. Bailey this week to the maximum term of 29 days in jail on charges of disorderly conduct and aggravated menacing. The charges stem from an incident earlier this year in which Bailey, 43, was walking his son home from the school bus stop when he allegedly made fun of his young next door neighbor who relies on crutches.
Bailey pleaded no contest in the case and said he was not mocking the girl, but responding to those who were calling his son names. Nonetheless, he wrote a note of apology to his young neighbor.
The girl’s parents, Michael and Tricia Knight, said they were pleased with the verdict, but questioned Bailey’s sincerity and said their daughter is now afraid to go outside, reports The family.
