Hey Affairs afloat ignoring the disabled but still charging the same is what doesn’t float

A popular form Of corporate entertaining in New york is the myriad of party boats that for a price will float you around the island of manhattan plying you with food and alcohol.
Sounds good doesn’t it? well not for the disabled, imagine this your best friend invites you to a sunset cruise the cost 100 dollars you ring they say they are wheelchair accessible so far so good.
So you pay and show up only to find out that their version of accessible is the party is on 3 levels they intend to carry me onto the bottom deck like a sack of flour and park me in a corner. Well the food is on the second deck, the party on the third and the view is on the bow of the boat and you are inside in the midship yet they think thats fine, There are nothing but stair cases and there is no discount and no refund and if when you get there you say “hell to the no” too late they have your money. Before you say thats just one company, sorry in 15 years I have been invited on them all and it is the industry standard.

there should be an enforcement squad for the ADA like there is for the liqour licensing squad and the health department, if you can’t realise the price of retrofitting a boat to make it accessible you shouldn’t be in the industry these companies are licenses to print money yet 30 thousand for a wheelchair elevator which by the way is what one woman paid for her event so they can afford it seems too much.

There are now over 100,000 registered wheelchair disabled on the island of manhattan alone ,they have families ,they get married they have parties bamitzvas anniversaries and graduations so do the math fix your damn boats and I’m telling you with those numbers the one company that does will make a fortune.

I am a disabled woman who through no fault of my own has wheels under my ass. I rely on the decency and common sense of local, state and federal goverments, as well as the retail community to abide by the disabled access laws and provide adequate ramps, disabled toilets, and not use them as store rooms or broom closets. This blog exists to find the offenders and out them, inform them, and report them if necessary and shame them into doing the right thing when all else fails.
