Broadway and 23rd finally gets a ramp for the disabled and they put flower boxes in the way?

Today I had to go to the doctors, and the way I got there was to catch a train to union square, then I rolled up Broadway to the corner of 23rd st where the doctor is.That part of Broadway in mid town Manhattan is notorious for having next to no down ramps on sidewalks at intersections.
Well today since I was there last, they have made the road surface a no car section with café tables and seating and yes finally new sidewalks complete with ADA* compliant ramps at each corner.
Well folks before you get excited that maybe just maybe Mr. Bloomberg got it right for once, as I approached the down ramp to cross Broadway there blocking the ramps at both sides of the road were two huge concrete planters at least 3 foot across each at least 3 foot high weighing hundreds of pounds with only at the most 12 inches between them right smack on the top of the ramps!!!
So once again Mr. Bloomberg’s comments that we the wheelchair using disabled community have no right being out and about is blatantly evident, when he thinks the best use of a disabled sidewalk access is as a faux jungle complete with palm trees in gigantic planters. I was unable to get pics but I will be adding them tomorrow and in the meantime calling the newyork city council stay tuned

I am a disabled woman who through no fault of my own has wheels under my ass. I rely on the decency and common sense of local, state and federal goverments, as well as the retail community to abide by the disabled access laws and provide adequate ramps, disabled toilets, and not use them as store rooms or broom closets. This blog exists to find the offenders and out them, inform them, and report them if necessary and shame them into doing the right thing when all else fails.
