The Bible Says Jesus Made a Blind Man See & a Dead Man Rise. Big Deal, We Just Call that Thursday at NYC Adaptive!

Last night a blind man climbed, a legless man was 40 feet in the air, and a wheelchair using woman climbed the “Brooklyn Bridge.” The mormons next door keep telling me in the after life I won’t need a chair, if I convert, I just tell them read my blog, I climb “Brooklyn Bridge,” race down Manhattan streets and swim miles and oh I’m Buddhist.

Last night a Cerebral Palsic teen climbed a 35ft wall with only a safety rope attached and it wasn’t the first time. A blind man scaled the same wall in under a minute and I dragged my self 30 feet up a wall called Brooklyn Bridge without any help at all. Religion is defined as the mass belief in a teaching or person or object by the population.

Most religious people believe because they want to be healed, they want to be safe, they want something better, the con in my opinion is after you buy into the game the dealer tells you even if you win the hand you have to die to cash out for the reward? My religion has become life and what I can do for others to show them they don’t need a talking snake, a burning bush, a woman made from a mans rib — they just need a pulse.

As long as you wake up every day with a pulse and drive to make it through the next 24 hours you have the ability to be your own reward. You can achieve whatever you can conceive and believe it! Just takes perspiration and inspiration and lose the word try. My judo sensei once, after being sick of hearing, “I tried sensei” put a black belt folded on the mat in front of him and said ”someone try to pick it up now” many of us rushed over and picked it up he screamed “stop what are you doing?” We answered in unison “trying sensei.” “No you’re not your doing,” he said, try is three word excuse for losers.

Neurologically and cognitively your brain is sending the message deliberately to every nerve every muscle and every bone group to pick it up, The only conceivable way you are not picking it up is when the same messages after the deliberate thought are sent to stop to cease, to retreat. There is no such action that equals try, You are doing until you deliberately give up. This was his Zen Koan for the day.

As a newbie disabled person, I had a huge problem. I forgot his lesson. I always whined ”you are not in a chair, you have no idea. I’m trying.” No I was just whining. We, as a nation, as a world, as a globe, are whining we are all screaming — we tried our best and yet we haven’t.  If you have tried your best you would achieve every single thing you start barring natural disaster occurring during the process. When we are diagnosed or after being born a certain way have endured a life time of people telling us not to try we give up. It is only as a disabled person when we finally say that’s fine I don’t try I do, that life gets better.

My friend Kareemah, last night, gave a soccer mom waiting for her kids a come to Jesus meeting because the mom started making noises like “I know how you feel” or “it must be so hard.“ The Kareemah’s, the Joe’s, the Nadia’s, the Matthew’s and the paralympians of this world don’t see hard as a challenge to whine about, they see it as a challenge to thrive on. We get up, we stay up, and we keep going up, because we have seen the alternative. We have lived the alternative and it is no way to live.

So my abelists friends, if life sucks at the moment look inwardly, if work sucks do the same, because last night what that woman considered horrible we call life and we live a damn cool life filled with climbing rocks, swimming miles, racing wheelchairs and going to the otherside of the world and teaching the world we kick ass and take names. The only place for the word try is in the acient greek,  so unless your name is Socrates If you are “trying your best” your actually being mediocre. Get up look at the problem and make a plan and do it. Last night there was a pause and someone said “give me five, I have to change out my legs.” An able-bodied person shuddered. We didn’t tthink twice. You see, changing a leg was solving a problem it wasn’t trying.

I am a disabled woman who through no fault of my own has wheels under my ass. I rely on the decency and common sense of local, state and federal goverments, as well as the retail community to abide by the disabled access laws and provide adequate ramps, disabled toilets, and not use them as store rooms or broom closets. This blog exists to find the offenders and out them, inform them, and report them if necessary and shame them into doing the right thing when all else fails.
